What are the different types of ultrasonic flow meters?

The two basic types of ultrasonic flow meters are the transit-time and Doppler meters.

How do ultrasonic flow meters work?

Ultrasonic flow meters use sound waves to measure the velocity of fluid flowing through a pipe and convert that data to the volume. Transit time flow meters measure the time difference between the travel time of an ultrasound wave going with the fluid flow and against the fluid flow. The time difference is used to calculate the velocity of the fluid travelling in a closed pipe system. Doppler meters use sound waves reflected off materials in the fluid, such as air bubbles or particulates, to measure flow velocity.

How accurate are ultrasonic flow meters?

Accuracy for volumes >50mm: ±1% of reading or 0.0003m/s, whichever is greater Between 25 and 50mm: ±1% of reading, ±0.01m/s 20mm and smaller are accurate to ±1% full scale

How do clamp-on flow meters work?

A clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter consists of at least two ultrasonic sensors mounted externally to a pipe. The sensors measure flow by transmitting and receiving ultrasonic signals directly through the pipe wall and medium. How the flow rate is determined varies depending on the nature of the application.
