If the liquid level rises and falls, this will change the capacitance measured by the probe in a predictable way, and therefore it can be used very effectively as a measurement of liquid level.

Liquid level sensors with a reed switch (S3 and S5 senders) use a magnetic float that adjusts with the liquid surface. As the magnetic float moves, the switch opens or closes, giving an electrical circuit to operate the sensor.
